10 cool Graffitis on the “outskirts” of Moscow

In the previous article we listed 10 interesting Graffities in the center of Moscow , and in this article we’ll share with you 10 more amazing works of art, that are located outside of the first “Ring of Moscow”.

1. Varlam Shalamov

The closest to the center in our list is the Varlam Shalamov portrait-graffiti, painted near the Gulag History Museum. The piece is a part of the project, organized by a group of street-artists, that paint portraits of people, that lived through the Gulag. The portrait of a Russian poet was painted by the street artist named Zoom, who, in addition to to paint, uses unrecyclable materials to create art.

2. Vasily Kandinsky

This huge portrait of the world-famous Russian artist Vasily Kadinsky, who was one of the founding fathers of Abstract art, is painted on a 6 story house by a group of street-artists called the Zuk Club. Their portfolio also includes portraits of Igor Stravinsky, Alexander Scriabin, Mikhail Bulgakov etc.

3. The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed

The two main protagonists of a cult Russian mini-series “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed” Gleb Zheglov and Volodya Sharapov were painted in the Marina Rosha, the place where the mini-series took place.  The graffiti was a joined effort of the street artists, the district administration and the locals, who gave great advice on how to complete the work of art.

4. Sergey Rakhmaninov

The portrait of the famous Russian musician Sergey Rakhmaninov adornes the children’s musical school. Rakhmaninov watches over the young generation of musicians and inspires them. The swav portrait of the musician is a part of the “Legacy” project, which includes the portraits of various other legendary Russian artists like Skryabin, Bulgakov, Stanislavski etc.

5. Roma Remo

This particular piece was painted by a street artist, that is more used to the “normal” canvas and brush. He specializes in the stained glass-type of paintings. This particular piece depicts a young woman who is surrounded by explosions of color, a very colorful spot among the grey ordinary buildings.

6. In the Blue Sea in the White Foam

Somewhere in Moscow on a 5 story house a young man is swimming through the ocean on a huge fish. This particular graffiti was painted by Rustam Salemgarayev from Kazan, and has a distinct melancholic vibe to it, hence the bittersweetness of the characters and the blumarine color palette.

7. Whales

Another ocean-themed graffiti is painted by Julia Efimova from Moscow, it depicts a flock of magical whales, swimming through the sky and a little girl in red controlling one of the whales like a kite. The blue color palette beautifully contrasts the red outfit of the girl and the overall dreamyness of the piece evokes the warmest emotions.

8. Cats

Who doesn’t like cats, honestly? Someone decided to brighten up the district by painting the electrical booth full of cheeky kitties. Representing every color of the rainbow, the electrical felines are painted in the same manner but look different from each other, smiling and smirking at the people who pass by.

9. Girl with Keys

This particular graffiti was painted by one of the first street-artists in Moscow, who did what he loved, back in the days when it was considered vandalism. Nowadays, people all over the country and all over the world come to Moscow to see different art pieces, that were considered a crime in the past. The girl with keys is painted in the blocky kinda abstract manner, meant to depict the fact that in this life, we all have a choice.

10. Takloo

Last but not least we have another happy floating whale that is swimming in the sky above the forest, which holds strange and peculiar creatures within. The cute atmosphere of the graffiti fuels the day of the people around it and fills the air with joy and happiness.
