What to see on Arbat Street

If you don’t have much time but want to experience Moscow at its best, visit the Arbat Street. Usually, it’s one of the first places guests visit when they come to Moscow, and with good reason. Here you can explore Russian culture, history and cuisine, and feel the heartbeat of this enormous megalopolis. Now a famous tourist attraction, it was once a place where the creme de la creme of Russia’s society resided. In the 1700’s this was where the likes of the Tolstoys, Pushkins and Sheremetevs lived. Attractions include a monument to the songwriter Bulat Okudzhava, the Melnikov House, built by constructivist architect Konstantin Melnikov, the Wall of Peace, the Spaso House, and the Church of the Saviour in Peski.

The movie theater “Chudozhestvenny”

“Chudozhestvenny” was founded in 1909. This place has played an important role in the history of Russian cinematography. It has seen many premieres, for example, the famous Soviet silent movie “Battleship Potemkin”, which was named many times the greatest film of all time. It still remains a functioning movie theater and is one of the oldest in the world.

Hard Rock Café

The cafe needs no introduction, as it is one of many all over the world. In Moscow, in addition to memorabilia from legendary international rock artists, you will also find those of Russian rock stars. It’s indeed a legendary place, highly recommended for anyone who is into rock n’ roll. The menu is also pretty much standard as far as the Hard Rock cafes go: burgers, beer and steaks. Here you can enjoy live rock music and the energetic atmosphere. If you are here on a Friday or a Saturday night, you’ll also get to watch the staff dance to songs like YMCA and Macarena, and the good news is that you can also join in!
