The place where wilderness is combined with rustic furniture and whimsy shaped and colored dishes, Sempre has become the first restaurant opened by the similarly-named Belgian company specializing in furniture, tableware, and design items. Hence, the very designer interior of the restaurant, with a jungle of live greenery hanging from the ceiling, moss on the walls, roughened surfaces of wooden tables and benches made from Balinese wood. The restaurant has two rooms, one with an open kitchen, a wood stove and a grill drawing smoke throughout the room, and another with a stage, a bar counter, and a communal table taking up almost the entire space. You won’t see any small tables for two, instead, all the surfaces are large and guests are invited to share meals and conversations with their neighbours, get to know each other, and make new friends. They even have a cat, he will come and and hang out with you too.  This place actually managed to summarize its essence best in their slogan — “Let’s share life. The world’s first con-fusion restaurant”

Unlike the interior, the kitchen in Sempre has been through quite some turbulence in the year that the place has been open — the chefs and menu have already changed several times. Now Luigi Mani, the star chef in Moscow’s super hit gastronomic projects Pinch and Uilliam’s, reigns in the kitchen. Italian and Asian cuisines stand out in the menu distinctly with some dishes filling the gap in between — ‘con-fusion’ delivered as promised.

Appetizer highlights include hummus spreads (we suggest to go with the assorted plate with thin flatbread) or avocado/edamame/sesame seeds. When it comes to mains, the soups — whether light lentil, hearty lamb, or spicy tom yam — are all delicious. Linguine vongole with bottarga is another safe main course choice!

The bar and beverages here deserve a special mention. The lemonades are all home-made and based on herb infusions and freshly squeezed juices – try the cucumber lemonade with chamomile, for example. The bar offers a wide selection of liqueurs, mature drinks in barrels, wine and some brilliantly executed original cocktails. The bloody mary here is hands down one of the best in the city.

Sempre is that perfect neighbourhood hangout you always dreamt of and never had, the place where you are always welcome and can feel at home, even if you came for the first time and alone. And most importantly — it’s a beautiful ‘neighbourhood’ bar, with a jungle on the ceiling and stylish cutlery, yet no snobbery whatsoever — you still get to wear sneakers and let your hair loose.
