The second you enter, you are plunged into the Scottish culture: red bricked walls with antique candlesticks and wooden furniture accents create a homey atmosphere; the tables are laid with tartan cloths and napkins; prompt servers are dressed in tartan kilts; the speakers play national Scottish music.

The author’s cuisine is based on traditional Scottish recipes and on dishes of wild game, venison, wild boar or wapiti. Traditional warm salads – ‘Aberdeen’, with beef, fried white mushrooms, Kenyan beans and tomatoes, olive oil and granular mustard (≈$12), or ‘English’, with smoked venison and marbled beef, combined with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, fried potatoes and sesame oil (≈$12) are a good start. The portions are huge, so a plate is usually enough for two people.

As a main course, we recommend wild boar cutlets with mashed potatoes and shiitake mushrooms, sprinkled with cowberry sauce (≈$11), or venison with porcini mushrooms in creamy sauce (≈$14), served in a basket of puff pastry, both dishes are outrageously delicious.  Alternatively, you can always go with the signature Scottish dish – Haggis, from the famous ‘Address to a Haggis’ by Robert Burns – a gentle mutton liver served with creamy pearl risotto (≈$16).

As the final chord of this gastronomic ode (if you still have some room for dessert) try the national Scottish cake. It’s made of oatmeal cookies soaked with coffee, with light vanilla cream and fresh berries (≈$7.5) and will leave no one indifferent!

A good dinner is surely accompanied with the best whiskey Scotland has to offer – the list here includes over 150 varieties of this noble drink – and of course, beer, both bottled and tap, for instance, Fraoch Heather Ale (≈$7.5 per 0.5 l) with honey flavor.
