Right on one of Rostov’s central arteries stands Publika — a bar and restaurant that easily wins over any customer. It’s one of the city’s leaders in creative seafood offerings. How about black mussel and tomato soup, or baked parmigiano mussels with spicy sauce, or grilled clams with citrus sauce and pureed broccoli? Classic steaks and burgers are on the menu too, as well as a fun appetizer selection.
The light modern interior is ingeniously decorated – a whimsical chandelier in the dining hall, mirrored columns, asymmetrical decoration pieces. Very relaxing and unpretentious, it’s a local favorite sitting in a semi-basement space, extending to a ground-level terrace in the summer. On the weekends, it turns into a party place, with DJs spinning latest tunes, dancing, and an impressive cocktail and wine list, serving a range from house wines to Moet & Chandon Imperial Brut.
Publica also practices the “suspended coffee” trend — the advance purchase of a cup of coffee for a stranger, whereby when you order a cup of coffee for yourself, you pay for two and whoever comes into the restaurant asking whether they have a cup of “suspended” coffee available — can get it as a treat from you, because you have already paid for it.
The only thing that you have to be aware of – hookahs are popular here, so if you really mind smoke, you will have a hard time finding a non-hookah-smoking section.
