Purga is a legendary spot in Saint Petersburg. This informal madcap club/bar/restaurant is steps away from Nevsky Prosekt, right on the Fontanka embankment and attracts an upbeat, intelligent, creative and straight-up wild crowd.
Its main kick is throwing a New Year’s party every night. Yes, every single night of the year! If for whatever reason you feel like reliving the New Year’s Eve any other time of the year — you can do it here.
Every waiter is dressed up as a clown, a bunny or a Snegurochka (an ice maiden that accompanies the Russian version of Santa Claus, Father Frost). There are costumes for anyone who wants to dress up too. Live DJ sets, theme parties, retro New Year TV shows on the screens, confetti, dancing and generally lots of crazy fun.
The food is surprisingly good, considering it’s a club, and clubs can rarely boast decent food. There are 13 kinds of salads, a grill and steak menu, nachos, enchiladas, and a huge cocktail list.
In the summer, don’t miss the 4-hour ride on the Purga party boat along St. Petersburg’s romantic rivers and canals (10 PM–2 AM, ≈$25 entrance, food and drinks not included), which is an excellent alternative to the regular touristy boat trips. The boat takes off just a few meters from the entrance, just ask the staff.
