St. Petersburg’s singing fountains

St Petersburg has over 100 singing fountains, which offer visitors a beautiful view, accompanied by music, at various times of the year.

In Peterhof

With 150 fountains and 4 cascades, Peterhof can truly be called the ‘Capital of Fountains’. The Peterhof park has a unique fountain system that does not use pumps and supplies enough water to keep the fountains working for up to ten hours a day. The singing fountain located here at Torgovay Ploshchad (Trade Square) is a unique attraction. Constructed at the place of a 19th-century drinking fountain, it’s equipped with a laser projector and can show images on its water screen. It can be used as an educational tool broadcasting lectures and accompanying them with synchronized dynamic water, light and music compositions.

On Moskovskaya Ploshchad (Moscow Square)

One of the largest singing fountain complexes among those located outside Peterhof, it has several bowls and magnificent string colonnades. The 20-minute  evening show is stunning, with fountain jets waltzing to the sounds of classical music, rising to the sky and glowing with multicolored illuminations. The fountain is open from 11 AM to 11 PM, with shows at 12 PM, 8 PM, 8:40 PM (Mon-Fri); 12 PM, 4 PM, 8 PM, 8:40 PM (Sat-Sun and public holidays).

At Engelsa Prospekt

Known as ‘Peace to children’, this is a relatively new singing fountain located near the Grand Canyon shopping mall. It’s a nice little fountain with bronze sculptures of children circling in a dance and the music and light show matching the overall idea: the water jets jump joyfully to children’s songs and music popular in different countries, which, according to the sculptor’s concept, symbolizes friendship uniting children all over the planet. The area itself is rich with attractions: nearby you’ll another ‘dancing’ fountain called ‘Seasons’, with four nymphs playing musical instruments, and across the street there is a musical monument to Dmitri Shostakovich.
