Less than a year old and already Distillate has been included in the list of Saint Petersburg’s top bars. Distillate is one of the places where you get to feel that high culture atmosphere that the Northern capital takes pride in.

They position themselves as an intellectual, speakeasy bar and do their best to create a certain image corresponding to that description. Imagine: you enter Distillate’s doors and the first thing you see – the mirror – is already an antique!

Talk about first impressions! Legend has it that the world-famous opera singer Feodor Chaliapin had a trick to look fresh at the Saint Petersburg parties. During a party, he’d glimpse into a mirror once in a while, and depending on the reflection, he would either carry on or freshen up in the nearby river. Don’t hesitate to use this trick too, while drinking in Distillate (but don’t bathe in the Neva, please)!

The bar offers different kinds of high quality, distilled drinks, as the name implies – strong beverages and homebrew berry infusions for the true connoisseurs; as well as branded cocktails. If you missed St. Pete’s 50 day summer period, then feel free to find solace in the bar’s “50 Sunny Days” cocktail. Alternatively, ask for their signature gray-colored “50 shades of St. P” cocktail – it’s perfectly instagrammable! The party is even more intellectual with the right music. Come on Friday or Saturday to enjoy a performance by a professional pianist, or maybe even join in, if you dare.

Who knows, this could be your 15 minutes of fame! In any case, your bravery will be rewarded with a complimentary drink from the bar. Good news: no matter what you drink, you won’t suffer a hangover in the morning, tried and true.

An added bonus to visiting this place is the view out the window: step out, and you’ll find yourself in a quiet, secret garden overlooking an old boiler station pipe, with brickwork made in the 1900s.
