Translated loosely as “work of art”, Kartina Maslom is a step in the opposite direction from the general minimalistic hole-in-the-wall grab-n-go trend. It’s a place where you get to sit down among contemporary grandeur and take your time to enjoy a meal. The street it’s located on, Molodogvardeiskaya, is in the old city center, and there are plans to transform it into a pedestrian area by summer 2018, which will make Kartina Maslom a perfect lunch stop over during a pleasant stroll through a the historical area of the city.

The original brickwork and comfy leather chairs, plenty of light from the large windows and heavy velvet curtains are combined tastefully to create a XXI century interpretation of traditional Russian luxury. The space is quite small and can host up to 35 people at a time, making it a perfect place to have an uninterrupted conversation over a delicious meal.

The menu revolves around traditional Russian cuisine and was developed by a European-trained chef to the highest standards. The dishes to pay attention to are the local pike-perch with nut crust (≈$10), beef tongue with blueberry and dark beer jam (≈$4) or homemade lamb sausage (≈$11).

HOURS

11 AM–11 PM (Sun…Thu),

The restaurant has its own smoker, so any of the smoked meats from the starters are fantastic. Try the homemade lemonades, too — there is a good selection to choose from.
