Transportation in Saransk

Saransk is the capital of the Republic of Mordovia, Russia, and is its financial and economic center. It is located in the Volga basin at the confluence of the Saranka and Insar Rivers, about 630 kilometers east of Moscow. It was founded as a fortress in the south-eastern outskirts of the Russian kingdom in 1641.  By the beginning of the 18th century, Saransk lost most of its military significance, and gradually became a craft and trade center. The climate is temperate continental, with an average temperature of +19 °C in the Summer. Saransk public transport consists of buses, trolleybuses, minivans (microbuses), and taxis. Saransk airport offers regular flights to Moscow and other cities.

Saransk Airport

Located near the village of Lukhovka, 8 km from the city center, the International Saransk Airport is the only airport in Mordovia. Operating since 1960s, it was recently renovated to welcome guests for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, since Saransk was one of the host cities. It is now easy to find your way around the airport, since there are signs in both English and Russian.

Railway Station

The Saransk Railway Station opened back on 1893, and is located in the city center(7, Vokzalnaya Ploshchad). Connecting Gorkovskaya and Kuibyshevskaya railways, it is the main gate to the city.

Bus Terminal

The Saransk Bus Station is located on the outskirts of the city, some 3.5 km away from the center (184, Ulitsa Polezhaeva). It’s a modest complex with a main building, an internal area for transport, parking lots, and a station square.
