Getting around in Volgograd

Volgograd is a large city with over 1 mln people and is fairly long, stretching along the Volga for more than 60 km. Here is a quick overview of the city’s means of transport and key traffic hubs.


Volgograd Airport

The Gumrak international airport opened in 1952 and was built on the site of the former WWII military airfield. It is 15 km away from downtown Volgograd (161, Shosse Aviatorov). The airport services include ATMs, self-service terminals, a post office, a medical center, a cafe, a car rental, a VIP sector, and free Wi-Fi. There is a hotel right next to the airport.

Transportation options

Aeroexpress train

The Aeroexpress train will connect Gumrak Airport to downtown Volgograd and is scheduled to be opened in May 2018, just in time for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It’ll be the fastest and the most convenient means of transportation from the airport.

Bus

The bus runs from the airport up to the Railway Station located in downtown Volgograd. You can find the bus stop near the Terminal A exit.

The stop for fixed-route microbuses is located near Terminal A.

The official taxi service from the airport is Bonjour Taxi that can be ordered at the airport desk and will cost ≈15$. Other taxi services, including online and mobile applications, are cheaper. Transfer service and car rentals are also available.

Volgograd Railway Terminal

Located in the city center, the Volgograd Railway Terminal services routes connecting Rostov-on-Don, Saratov, Astrakhan, and Moscow (1 Privokzalnaya Ploschad).

Volgograd Bus Terminals

There are two bus terminals in the city. The Central Bus Terminal (11 Ulitsa im. Balonina), less than 1 km from the city center, provides most bus services including long-distance and suburban destinations.
